The thing I love most about you all, my readers, is that I feel like I can publish my posts for you as my friends. Many of you who follow Pineapple & Prosecco also follow along on Instagram and may know that this past weekend we celebrated a pretty exciting milestone – 10k!

I said it in my post and I’ll say it again – I hope that in a few months or years I can look back on this as one small milestone amongst many, but for now, I’m celebrating.

I get lots of questions from you guys and absolutely love answering them, but unfortunately don’t always have the time to get to every single one. I thought about the idea of doing my first Instagram live (still too scurred), but in the end thought that answering ten of your questions on the blog would be the best way to do so.

1. Where are your favorite places to shop?

You can find a list of my favorite stores here! I do 95% of my shopping online. Some of my friends think I’m crazy, but I can’t stand being in a store, especially when I know how much more convenient it is to click a button and come home to a package of new goodies! My top three favorite places to shop right now are Nordstrom (for everyday wear), Free People (for sweaters and tops) and Blank NYC (for jeans).

2. What trends are you currently loving?

Oh, that seriously changes every week! Lately I’ve been really into balloon sleeves and find myself picking a new piece up every time I see one! I’m also loving outerwear this season (faux fur coats, shearling and teddy bear coats, especially).

3. What are your five favorite make-up products?

Such a hard question! But here goes…

1. Josie Maran Argan Englightenment Illuminizer (I mix this in with my foundation for glowing skin)

2. NARS Casino Bronzer (I love all-things NARS, but especially can’t live without this!)

3. MAC’s Velvet Teddy (This deep-tone beige matte lipstick is THE perfect neutral)

4. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner (My perfect cat eye thanks me for this)

5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Medium Brown (Recently switched from the brow wiz to this and I’m loving it)

3. How do you style your hair?

I’ve always loved doing my hair, but my hair game totally got serious when I switched to the T3 Whirl Trio a few months back (I also use T3’s 1″ clip barrel when I want a more Victoria’s Secret model-esque wave). I have never been a big hair-product junkie. I’m sure this is partly due to my uber-cooperative hair, but I use hairspray maybe twice a year and product only when my hair is feeling super frizzy or extra dry. I like to let my hair air dry, but when I do need to blow it out, I’ll (sometimes remember to) use a blowout cream for heat protection. Day-to-day, I use my T3’s 1″ straight barrel and lightly brush out my curls for a loose, beachy wave. Would you guys be interested in a post-tutorial or an Instagram live? Let me know in the comments section!

4. Who shoots your photos?

Whenever I get asked this question, I love to ask people who they think shoots my photos, and the answers are usually quite entertaining. For those of you who know my husband Joe, you might know that while he could win Olympic medals for his athleticism and write his own cookbook with his amazing cooking skills, he knows absolutely nothing about photography! Joe shoots 90% of my photos with 100% of my guidance, but has actually gotten incredibly good at photography over the past year! I shoot the other 10% – flat lays, things I can self-time, etc.

5. What are your photography must-haves?

I’ve always been one to stick to what I know and love, and when it comes to photography, I’m no different! My dad, who taught me everything I know about photography, turned me on to Nikon at a young age and I have never found any reason to switch! So as a Nikon girl at heart, I’ve built up quite an arsenal of equipment over the years and think it would be kind of crazy to switch it up this late in the game…ya feel me?

  • Camera – I’ve had my Nikon D90 forever. It doesn’t come cheap, but it also lasts. Since it’s an older model, the original price has been reduced and you can get it these days for around $400. You can gather countless suggestions from people about what camera to use, and it can be really overwhelming. My best advice is to read lots of reviews! Ken Rockwell is my go-to photography guy when I’m looking for new equipment!
  • Lenses – I have quite a few lenses for my D90. From wide angle, to macro zoom to various prime lenses, it almost seems like too much sometimes. For blog photography, I recommend using a prime lens, hands down. By the way, for you non-photogs, a prime lens is simply a lens with a fixed focal length, aka it doesn’t zoom. I interchange between two prime lenses – the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D and the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G.

The 50mm f/1.8D will run you about $125. It’s an insanely good price for how great this lens is! This is the type of lens that will help you achieve that beautifully blurred background, because of its low aperture.

The 35mm f/1.8G will run you about $200; another incredibly low price for its quality! This, too, will help you achieve a blurred background, but has a bit of a wider field of view than compared to the 50mm. (The photo below was shot with this lens!)

6. What editing programs do you use to edit your photographs?

If I was only allowed to use one editing program for the rest of my career, it would be Adobe Lightroom. I could go on and on about this editing software, from its ease of use compared to Photoshop, to its ability to make your own custom filters, but I think Blair of Blogging 4 Keeps lays it out best in this “Why You Should Use Lightroom” post. When it comes to Instagram, I put all of my photos through a slight filter in the “A Color Story app, which I’m obsessed with by the way.

7. How do you make money blogging?

I get asked this question all the time! The truth is, every blogger who chooses to monetize their blog goes about it in a different way. How I personally monetize is through a mix of marketing techniques and fostered relationships. I market other companies through my affiliate networks (like Liketoknow. It) on every single one of my social channels.

On the other hand, when I work with brands, I am very selective about the projects I take on because I want the products and brands that I share to be ones that I genuinely support! My best advice is to build a relationship with your brand’s team from the get-go and always go above and beyond. 8. Do you mentor bloggers?

I do! I have done digital content and design consulting on the side for the past few years and recently added bloggers to my repertoire! Of course, everything I do is personalized to meet the needs of my clients, but I typically work with bloggers who are taking the leap and starting a new blog, or those who are working on revamping their layout and design.

9. How do you balance blogging and your personal life?

That can be hard. Really hard; and I still struggle with work-life balance! It can be especially difficult when you throw college or your career outside of blogging into the mix. My biggest advice is to recognize the importance of disconnecting. I really try to stick to a schedule and set aside a certain amount of time each day of the week and on the weekends to set aside for editing, drafting, answering e-mails, social media, etc. Working until all hours of the night after a full day of classes or work is no bueno. It can be hard to put the cap on something that you enjoy doing and feel like you have to keep up with 24/7, but the reality is, life goes on outside of blogging and it’s so important not to miss it.

1o. What are your favorite blogs to read?

For fashion, I love visiting  Lindsay Marcella, Something Navy and Jess Ann Kirby, and for a mix of a little bit of everything I read and Cupcakes & Cashmere, to name a few.

Have more questions? Leave them below or send them to me via e-mail! I loved doing this post and hope to do more like it down the road if it’s something you guys would like to see!

  1. Congrats on that accomplishment girl! Also, based on the beauty products you listed, I feel like you would LOVE Becca Champagne Pop highlighter and the Benefit Hoola bronzer – I feel like we have super similar coloring + they would look great with your skin/hair!

    • Danielle says:

Thanks lady! I actually have Champagne Pop and use it daily! Couldn’t live without that stuff! Hoola used to be one of my faves but I’ve more recently switched to NARS casino 🙂 xx

“Joe shoots 90% of my photos with 100% of my guidance.” I’m sorry this is hilarious. Most impressive though! Just shows that men can be taught! ? Love this look though and those shoes are just kickin! The balloon sleeves are such a fun trend to play around with, and they are usually such versatile pieces. I’m so excited for you that you hit 10K on insta! That’s so exciting and you totally earned it ?

I am so lucky he is patient because I’m like the angry-overworked teacher whose students aren’t following directions to their standards sometimes! Haha, but at least we can laught about it at the end of the day! Thanks for the compliments, girlfriend!

  4. Congrats on 10k!!! I loved reading about how you style your hair. It always looks so pretty!

  5. Lauren says:

Congrats on 10K, that is so amazing! Love how you answered all of these questions. I must say, I’m a fellow Nordstrom and Blank NYC lover too. They just have the cutest pieces right now!

  6. Huge congrats on 10k! I find number 9 to be the hardest one as well as you’re kind of working 24/7 when you’re a blogger and have no spare time, but it’s important to set up routines to actually make it work. Otherwise you’ll hit the wall sooner or later.

  7. Huyen says:

Congrats so much on 10k!! And you will definitely grow! It’s all about consistancy.

My hubby takes my photos too!! He has come a long way as well to taking photos but at least we get to have our own personal photographers!!

I am also in love with the t3micro brand! They are so pretty! never tried their wands or curling tools but I have their straightener which I love ❤❤

    • Danielle says:

Right?! I do love that we can wake up on a Saturday morning and just decide to go when we have a free block of time. Definitely makes shooting easier!

I only discovered T3 within the last year and I’m SO glad I did. Thought I don’t straighten my hair nearly as much, I’d love to check our their straightener for the times that I do!!

      Thanks for stopping by love!

  8. Stephanie says:

First of all, HUGE congrats on 10k. Major accomplishment right there, girlfriend, and I’m so proud of you. You certainly deserve it! This was such a fun read, as well! I would love to see a hair tutorial at some point, because I’m always envious of your perfect waves! It also made me giggle to hear about your hubby the non-photog haha. Nearly everyone that I’ve gotten to shoot my photos, I approach in a similar way – “here’s the camera, but let me change all the settings for you and tell you where to stand, squat, lay down or whatever to get the perfect shot. okay, go” hahah!!

    • Danielle says:

Thanks for your kind words, darling! I might dabble with videoing my hair tutorial and if that’s the case, I will totally be coming to you for some pointers!

  9. Iliana says:

Congratulations doll ? I really enjoyed this post ? & I love your look! Anything blush I love and I actually just ordered those sneakers!

  10. Chloe says:

Yaay! CONGRATULATIONS on hitting 10k! 🙂 Excited what you’ll have in store for the new year!
