Five Ways to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe Into Fall
Fall is imminent. Although I dread it now and would give anything to stretch summer out for just a few more weeks, I know once it gets here, I’ll embrace it. I’ve always loved fall fashion due to its versatility – not too cold that I have to give up my summer staples, yet cool enough to bring some new pieces into the mix.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that transitioning into fall doesn’t mean packing up my summer wardrobe until next season. There are plenty of ways that you can continue to utilize your favorite summer pieces while incorporating fall fashion trends, and today I’m sharing my top five ways with you!
1. SPORT YOUR THIGH-HIGHS WITH A MINI DRESS
Over-the-knee boots came in hot last season and I’m still loving everything about them. Pairing them with a mini-dress minus the tights is a great way to show off the last few weeks of your sun-kissed summer legs that you worked so hard for while still staying cozy. If you’re using a sleeveless mini dress from your summer wardrobe, throw on a vest or a bomber. Otherwise, opt for pieces like a denim shirtdress (see also here and here) or a sweater dress to compliment those boots!
2. PAIR A MAXI DRESS WITH A LEATHER JACKET
A leather jacket is hands down my favorite fall accessory; I think I have one in every color. Last year I invested in oxblood and teal and just thinking about bringing them back into my wardrobe makes me giddy. Pairing a leather jacket with a summer maxi creates such an effortless, chic look that’s perfect for so many different occasions. For me, this is the perfect dressed up yet dressed down look!
3. UTILIZE A LONG VEST AS YOUR “THIRD PIECE”
While jeans and a tee never get old, they can sometimes get boring. Fall is a great excuse to add a third piece to your wardrobe and refresh your look. This season, a longline vest is a must-have staple in your wardrobe. I’ve always felt longer vests add an element of elegance to an outfit and I love their endless pairing possibilities. Be sure to pick a color that will work with your wardrobe. Camel is a great option if you wear a lot of black, while black is a smart choice if you like to experiment more with colors on top.
4. THROW ON A PAIR OF OPAQUE TIGHTS WITH YOUR SHORTS
In the past, shorts were always the first to go when it came time to pack up my summer wardrobe. I never entertained the simple possibility of throwing on a pair of tights underneath. A pair of opaque tights are a great option for those few pairs of shorts that you’re just not ready to pack away quite yet. Throwing on a light sweater or a utility blouse is a great way to style this look for fall.
5. STYLE YOUR SANDALS AND OPEN TOE SHOES WITH JEANS
Though I love welcoming boots back into my wardrobe in the fall, I always feel that I’m not quite ready to give up my sandals and open toe heels. The great thing about fall weather is that it’s a slow progression, especially throughout September when it’s still warm enough to show a little skin. The effortless look of sandals with your favorite pair of jeans, paired with a longline cardigan or utility jacket is the perfect look for fall.
