This Summer’s Must-Have Makeup
Bring on the luminous skin, peachy cheeks and golden eyes! Summer makeup has always been my favorite and today I’m sharing some of my must-have products with you for this season. I’ll be honest, more than half of these products are a part of my beauty routine all year long. While I do love experimenting with seasonal makeup, I also have my preferences that I tend to stick to throughout the year. For instance, I always gravitate towards corals, peaches and pinks because of my skin tone, so that doesn’t change much from season to season (although I do love a dark maroon or violet lip in the fall and winter). Furthermore, I always mix an illuminizer into my foundation. Dewy has become a regular part of my vocabulary, and I don’t hate it.
This past weekend we celebrated by best friend’s 28th birthday. Husband and I haven’t gotten out much lately between our tiresome work schedules during the week and traveling nearly every weekend. So, given that this was an “occasion”, I felt kind of panicked as I tore through my makeup bag looking for the perfect products to create that understatedly put together look that we all work so hard to get.
I grabbed peaches, pinks, corals, bronzes and golds; all of my summer essentials. I started by mixing my favorite summer foundation with my year-round illuminizer and set it with mac’s prep + prime. Since I’m all about lightening and brightening, I blended YSL’s touche éclat under my eyes to eliminate dark circles and illuminate my skin. I dusted some of my go-to bronzer, highlighter and cream blush on my face like it was my job (but really, I’ve gotten so good at these three steps as of late), finishing with a nude eye and a bright peach lip.
I feel like we’re at that weird, in-between age where we could go out to a club and rage, but we don’t really feel like being sweaty sardines who have to wait 20 minutes for a drink because the place is triple over capacity…or we could go out to a fancy dinner followed by cocktails and act all adulty as we sip on our pinot noir and are back home & in bed by 11. I’ve done both in the last 3 years and neither felt right. So, when she told us that we’d be doing what’s called ‘escape the room’, I breathed a sign of relief that we’d be participating in a happy medium between raging and adulting.
If you haven’t heard of escape the room or you have but haven’t yet tried it, its an insanely fun activity to do with a group of friends over the weekend that I highly recommend!
