casual holiday style

Amidst the fancy work events + overdressed cocktail parties, and time spent at home in the same pair of PJs all weekend, what about date night or a low key holiday get together at a friends? There has to be an in between, right? Most of the time, I find my happy medium between cozy and chic, so I'm sharing some of my favorite his and hers casual holiday style with you today.

HIS

When it comes to casual holiday style for the guys, Joe usually sticks to a base of dark denim and a crew neck sweater. At 6'3 with an athletic build, finding the perfect pair of denim hasn't been easy over the years. Jeans are either perfect on the waist, but too short OR long enough, but don't come in slimmer sizes. When I stumbled upon Lucky Brand's Heritage Slim jean (perfect balance between a guys skinny and a bootcut), which not only came in Joe's size but also came in the most gorgeous dark wash, we were sold. We bought 5 pair and he's been wearing them ever since.

As for sweaters, I'm always on the lookout for slim fit style or for brands that have a naturally slimmer construction. J.Crew is one of them - and the Everyday Cashmere crewneck has been the perfect piece to dress up denim just enough but not too much. These cotton crewnecks are another great option at half the price. I also love this style from Old Navy.

Men's shoes are my favorite. Joe actually stops me from buying him more shoes that he doesn't need (#wifeoftheyear or overkill?). When a dress shoe is too fancy for the occasion, and an athletic sneaker is too casual, Joe likes to mix the two together for the perfect combination of a leather sneaker. I just featured Joe's sneaks in my men's gift guide. The cognac is a perfect in between color (goes perfectly with black or brown). Also love these (cheaper price point).

HERS

Let me first start by saying that my idea of cozy holiday style is this. But if we're talking 'have-to-get-out-of-bed' holiday style, I'll usually go one of two ways - a chunky knit with denim and booties or a chunky knit with a midi or miniskirt. This year, I can't get enough of the pleated midi-oversized sweater combo.

This cozy chenille knit (currently only $40!) is the most gorgeous neutral color. I've got a ton of use out of it already this season. It's a thick fabric so it keeps you extra warm and the bell sleeves add the perfect touch (some of my other favorite knits of the season here, here + here). My skirt is from ASOS two seasons ago, and it has been so hard to find a white pleated midi guys! I had previously linked one from Express, which is now sold out. A metallic is also great option with a neutral sweater - just picked up this one which I love for the holidays!

As it gets chillier, I'll throw on a pair of tights and when it's too cold to even care about looking stylish, I'll most likely swap out the skirt for a pair of suede or velvet pants (see here + here).

Thanks to my insanely supportive husband for never saying no when it comes to my blog, and for powering through this shoot whilst feeling ever-so embarrassed waltzing back and fourth between a crowded street while people stared.
