My Winter Capsule Wardrobe for the 2026 Season
Winter has always been an underrated season, IMO. If we take away the fact that it's freezing and much more appealing to never leave the house, styling a Winter wardrobe actually lands in second place on my list, right behind Fall.
As I've refined my wardrobe over the years, I've come to really treasure my staples that stay in the rotation all season long. Once you have the essentials, you can bring in new trends or a stand-out statement piece or you can stick to the basics, keeping it simple and classic. No matter what's more your speed, working with a capsule wardrobe is not only a great investment for seasons to come, but it just makes everything easy.
Keep reading to see my Winter capsule wardrobe staples for 2026, plus 20+ outfit ideas you can mix & match.

Staple Tops
Basic Tee - classic t-shirt is always one of my most-worn staples year-round, even for layering in the Winter! I have multiples of the the Abercrombie Relaxed Tee - it's the perfect fit (not too tight or too loose) and only $19.
Long Sleeve Mockneck & Crewnecks - I'm always layering with a lightweight long sleeve top. This Skims crew is my go-to (I recommend sizing up).
Sweatshirt - If I'm working from home or have an errands day, I'm in a sweatshirt. Anine Bing is a splurge but I've worn & washed mine a million times and the quality is still perfection, plus they have a rare oversized fit that is great for leggings without feeling gigantic. I do a size L. Aerie is also great for loungewear! So many cozy sweatshirts (my favorite this year is this mockneck).
Crewneck & Turtleneck Sweaters - Dress it up or down − a classic oversized sweater is a Winter capsule wardrobe must for 2026.

Staple Jeans, Pants + Skirts
Dark Wash Denim - Jeans are my love language, and you know my love for AGOLDE denim runs deep. If you're not a jeans girl and splurging on denim doesn't make sense for your wardrobe, try Abercrombie denim, which is another favorite!
Faux Leather Pants - These are a great alternative to jeans that can easily be dressed up or down. Abercrombie's Relaxed Fit style is my favorite.
Trousers - Aritzia's Lodge pant works for nearly any occasion; from travel days to the office and even elevated casual. Plus, you can't beat the stretchy waist!
Leggings - A must-have for cozy days. My current favorite is Abercrombie's StudioFLEX legging. This Amazon pair is the next best thing if you don't want to splurge on Lululemon.
Satin Skirt - Will forever be a jeans/pants girl over skirts/dresses but I love the versatility of a satin maxi skirt this time of year.
Staple Outerwear
Classic Blazer - I love a blazer that's a little on the longer and more oversized side. GAP makes a great classic black option with some stretch. H&M is another place I always brose when I'm looking for something new (and affordable).
Puffer Vest - I'll rotate a vest in on warmer Winter days or when I want something a little less bulky than a coat. This Free People puffer is my top pick (size down)!
Wool Coat - One of my non-negotiable Winter wardrobe staples for 2026. H&M is great if you're looking for budget-friendly, but if you want to invest in something that will last, my recommendations are Aritzia or Mango.
Puffer Coat - Depending on where you live, a puffer may or may not be a staple you want to bring into your capsule. Winters in NY get pretty cold, and I love the extra warmth on a puffer on those freezing days!
Staple Shoes
Black Boots - A pair of black boots is one thing in my closet that I'll keep for years and years. I've worn this style constantly all season long.
Chelsea Boots - These waterproof boots have been in my rotation for many years and are a must for rainy days (size up 1/2 size). Also love these suede zip boots inspired by The Row.
Sneakers - Sneakers are what I wear most days. Adidas are typically my go-to for everyday outfits (size guide here), and I love New Balance when I want to wear a trendier style or when I'm doing something active.
UGG Boots - This is one of those capsule pieces that's on the cusp for me. I wear mine 24-7, but could you do without them? Sure. I bought this similar style last season when UGGs were sold out and while I'm usually a big proponent of buying the real thing, this is a great alternative for half the price!
Staple Accessories
Classic Bag - And no, it doesn't have to be designer! If you are buying designer, YSL is usually my brand of choice because I find that their bags are very practical and versatile. You can also find a ton of budget-friendly options on Amazon. Check out my Amazon Storefront for all my faves (especially this one!).
Everyday Tote - A tote is a great work staple that can also double as an everyday bag if you need something larger. If you're looking for something a little more elevated, this DeMellier tote is my everyday bag.
Belt - Love that the statement belt is having its moment. Here are a bunch of budget-friendly options from Amazon that I own.
Beanie - I love grabbing my beanies from H&M and Aritzia.
Jewelry - Give me a pair of gold hoops and a layering necklace, and I'm set. You can use code DANIELLE 20 for 20% off any Electric Picks jewelry (plus, the brand has a lifetime guarantee on any piece you buy!). Here are some more budget-friendly options.
