My Favorite Wearable Fall Fashion Trends for 2024
Every year, seasonal runway trends make their debut and I'm usually left scratching my head about how these high-fashion concepts will ever fit into practical, everyday outfits. What I really care about are the trends that make sense IRL aka what's actually wearable. While there's always some rollover from the prior season, I'm really looking forward to incorporating these 7 wearable fall fashion trends in my 2024 outfits.
Leopard Print
2019 (leopard-obsessed) me is so glad we didn't ditch the leopard prints. While I didn't predict a comeback this soon, I'm not mad about it. I love a leopard print because it's versatile enough to be paired with almost anything, complimenting a deeper Fall color palette especially. Leopard midis were the item a few years back, but this season is more about the leopard pant, namely jeans or cargos. I'm also loving leopard print Mary Jane flats and pointed toe kitten heels for more of an understated look. [photos @nitsanraiter, dolcevita.com, @kathleen.post]
Button-Up Cardigans
I will always love an oversized cardigan for Fall but this year we'll definitely see more of the classic button cardigans. This style is traditionally more fitted, but I like the idea of sizing up for a more relaxed fit versus a really polished look tailored close to your body. Sézane is on the pricier side, but makes a really great classic button cardigan (as seen in the middle photo above). [photos @kerifay, @sharstinm]
Burgundy
Burgundy is Fall 2024's standout color and while it's definitely not groundbreaking as a classic Autumn tone, I think we'll see a lot of creative new ways to style it this season. I'm gravitating more towards burgundy done as an accessory like a bag, sneaker or hat but I've also seen it done as a hero piece like a satin skirt which is gorgeous. Cuffed Wide Leg Jeans
I'm dying on the hill of ditching the skinny jeans and am so glad we're back in our wide leg era. Cuffed wide leg jeans are popping up more and more and as we transition into more of a denim season come Fall, I think we'll start seeing this style everywhere. I've always been a denim girl and I love this fresh take especially because it's something I can do with jeans I already own. [photos @karo.couture, @vanessaroseblair]
Mary Jane Flats
I won't lie there was never a point in the last 15+ years where I said "wow, I really miss ballet flats" but now that they're back, I can't really see myself ditching the convenience of a simple, comfortable flat. Classic Mary Janes are known for their rounded toe and buckle strap, but I love that we're seeing more modern takes with different toe shapes and buckle styles. Mesh and netted styles are great as we transition into Fall, but I predict these won't carry us much past September and we'll see more of a switch to the classic leather flats. Cropped Outerwear
I will never ditch a classic trench coat or my longer-length Fall coats, but I love this fresh take on jackets as we transition into Autumn. When I think cropped, I usually picture a classic bomber or a fitted leather or suede jacket, but this year is all about more relaxed styles. The cropped trench coat will be big, although I'm not sure how practical this will be in my wardrobe for future seasons...TBD! I have my eye on this cropped relaxed-fit leather jacket. Satin Maxi Skirts
Fall is no stranger to satin skirts but in the last year or so I've seen more of a transition from midis to maxis. This of course doesn't render midis obsolete, but I'm loving a cozier, full-length silhouette for Fall. There are so many ways to style a satin maxi, making this a classic wardrobe staple in my closet. [photos @laura.byrnes, rumored.com, @chloelloyd]
Suede
Suede will forever be one of the most classic leathers so the fact that it's back in the spotlight this Fall makes me happy. Shades of brown, olive and black will be the most popular colors, but I can't get enough of chocolate brown suede right now. Of course, a true suede is going to put pieces at a much higher price-point, but I am all for a faux suede. I've got my eye on bags and jackets in particular.
